BT and Ofcom reach agreement on future governance of Openreach

BT and Ofcom have reached agreement on a long-term regulatory settlement that will see Openreach become a distinct, legally separate company with its own Board, within the BT Group. The agreement is based upon voluntary commitments submitted by BT that the regulator has said meet its competition concerns.

Photonics components developer Optoscribe opens new facility in Scotland

Livingston, Scotland-based company Optoscribe, a global supplier of glass-based integrated photonic components, is pleased to announce it has opened a new facility to accommodate rapid growth and future expansion plans.

The new 7,400 square foot building includes a Class 1,000 laser processing clean room and a Class 10,000 assembly, characterisation, test & assembly clean room. In addition, the new facility has ample expansion space to accommodate the company’s aggressive growth plans over the next few years.

OFC 2017: Kaiam, Corning present co-packaged terabit photonic interconnect

Kaiam and Corning showcased an optical engine and single-mode fibre interface connector suitable for co-packaging with a 12.8Tb/s switch chip at OFC 2017, last week. The partners say that by converting high-speed signals to optical within the switch package, this high-density engine has the potential to cut chip interconnect power consumption in half.

Key features include a choice of standard and high-grade SM and MM, compliance to IEC, TIA, RoHS, and REACH standards, as well as a flammability rating of UL 94 V-0.

NeoPhotonics launches 64 GBaud micro-modulator for 400/600G applications

NeoPhotonics, a developer of optoelectronic solutions for high-speed communications networks, will demonstrate its new 64 GBaud, polarization-multiplexed, quadrature micro-modulator at the forthcoming OFC 2017 conference and exhibition.

The Micro-MOD is implemented in a small form factor (3.9x27x13 mm) package, which co-packages a quad-channel, differential 64 GBaud driver with an indium phosphide-based Mach-Zehnder quadrature modulator chip.
