VTT and CWC receive the first 5G equipment in Finland

Nokia has delivered radio equipment based on 5G technology to Finland’s Centre for Wireless Communications and the VTT Technical Research Centre. The arrival of the first 5G devices in Finland marks the continued long-lasting 5G test network cooperation between the network company Nokia and the research institutes.

With the new demo equipment, VTT says it is possible to study applications and services requiring 5G connectivity and demonstrate 5G opportunities offered to enterprises and other partners. High bandwidth enables the system to reach speeds of up to several gigabits per second. The equipment is used for educational purposes.

HIG Capital, a global private equity investment firm with over €20 billion of equity capital under management, has acquired substantially all the assets of Xtera Communications, a provider of innovative and bespoke sub-sea fibre optic solutions. HIG previously provided debtor-in-possession financing to the Xtera debtors in connection with the Chapter 11 case.

Ericsson, Telstra, and Motorola deliver first LTE broadcast-enabled PTT call

Telstra, Ericsson, Motorola Solutions, and Qualcomm Technologies have achieved the first LTE Broadcast-enabled PTT call on Telstra’s commercial LANES Solution. Telstra’s LTE Broadcast capability allows PTT group calls to be delivered simultaneously to all members of a group call with high assurance, low latency and separated from regular mobile traffic. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress, last week, in Barcelona, Spain.

Yokogawa launches higher-performance successor to AQ6315A

The new AQ6374 is the successor to the Yokogawa and ANDO-branded AQ6315A wideband optical spectrum analyser and includes diffraction grating-based monochromator technology, an enhanced user interface and an air purging feature.

Yokogawa have enhanced the control technologies originally developed for the AQ6370 series, with the AQ6374 model now achieving measurement speeds up to 40 times that achieved by the AQ6315A. The ability to sample 100001 points of data, 100 times as much as the AQ6315A, enables high resolution measurement over a broad wavelength range, while data-transfer rates during remote control via Ethernet are up to 100 times faster.

Board-level optical interconnect sales will generate $5.6 bn by 2022

Market analyst CIR forecasts that sales of board-level optical interconnects will reach $5.6 billion by 2022, up from $696 m in 2017. Its report “Opportunities in Board-Level Optical Interconnects: Optics-Enabled Circuit Boards, Optical Engines and Optical Backplanes”, the analyst says much of the growth will come from an entirely new class of MSA-compliant optical boards that will provide massive backbone capacity for routers and switches compared to today’s conventional electrical backplanes and motherboards.
