CODIXX AG are set to showcase the colorPol®, a high contrast ratio and high polarizer providing low intrinsic losses and high transmission at spectral ranges of 1.250 – 2.500 nm, transmittance of over 98 % (with anti-reflection coating) and a contrast ratio greater than 10,000:1 (> 40 dB). The insertion loss undercuts 0.1 dB.

OFC 2017: Optimizing data centre placement, network design to strengthen Cloud computing

A US researcher has developed a mathematical model that offers the potential to improve the flow of internet traffic generated by cloud computing by optimizing data centre placement and utilizing distance-adaptive transmission technology. The work will be presented at the forthcoming OFC conference at Los Angeles Convention Center, Ca, between 21 – 23 March 2017.

FTTH conference details costs of fibre-based Gigabit Society

At the FTTH Conference, Marseille (16-18 February 2017), the FTTH Council Europe made public the first results of its updated study into the cost of deploying FTTH throughout the EU. The Council’s research shows that the outstanding costs of full fibre coverage in the EU are €156 billion as input to the ongoing legislative debate on the proposal for a European Electronic Communications Code.

Fibre optic cleaver and stripper market forecast to grow faster

Global sales of fibre optic cleavers and strippers will grow from $38.7 million in 2016 to $42.6 million in 2021, after which the value is forecast to increase at a much faster pace to the year 2026.

These are some of the key conclusions from market analyst ElectroniCast Consultants, which has just released its annual study of the use of selected cleavers and strippers for optical fibre preparation.

Dutch researchers transmit 10 bits on a single photon

Researchers at the University of Twente’s MESA+ Research Institute have transmitted more than 10 bits of information using a single photon. They achieved this using an ingenious method for detecting individual photons. They say that the knowledge gained from this study can be used to improve the security and speed of quantum communication.

The research results were published in the scientific journal Optics Express.
