As operators continue to struggle with traffic growth, the expectation is that network configuration and management must change. Ekinops intros compact, flexible 100G design

Ekinops has added 100G technology to its 360 transport product family. The design - available as an in-chassis card and a 1RU pizza box - implements a 100Gbps transponder or a muxponder function. The muxponder aggregates lower speed traffic into a 100Gbps signal while the transponder carries a 100 Gigabit Ethernet client signal.

Cortina Systems launches 100G transport processor family

Cortina Systems had launched the CS605x family of transport processors, which support 100 Gigabit Ethernet and Optical Transport Network (OTN). The application-specific standard product (ASSP) family is aimed at DWDM platforms, packet-optical transport systems, carrier Ethernet switch routers and IP edge and core routers. The family can also be used in data centre top-of-rack Ethernet aggregation switches.

Ciena paves the way for 100G upgrade at BT

Ciena has landed a key contract to supply packet-optical transport equipment to UK incumbent BT. Commercial roll out of the 6500 platform is expected to start by the end of the year and will cover BT’s next-generation network, 21CN, across the whole of the UK.

NeoPhotonics ramps up production capacity for tunable lasers

The market for 100G systems is expected to grow strongly next year, judging from a recent announcement by NeoPhotonics.  The components manufacturer says it is in the process of doubling capacity for production of its narrow-linewidth tunable lasers – products optimised to provide the low noise and narrow linewidths required for 40 and 100 Gbps coherent applications.
